Rill Lyrics

What's the meaning behind the band's name?Well the name some what speaks for itself. I use to go by PROPHET but i found trouble trying to brand that name. So, one day i sat and I thought... What do i want the people to remember me for? What do i want them to think of when they think of me? As an artist what do i stand for? And just like that it hit me. REAL LYRICS plain and simple. But i wasnt done there, i still wanted to brand myself with something unique. I thought of the word ill, a word often used to describe a rapper with wit and skill. It was a process that felt confortable for me and it felt natural to go by this name because for me music is not just about beats and hooks, its about... RILL LYRICS

How the band started??
I actually was part of another group, as i mentioned before i use to go by the name PROPHET. I use to be in a click called 95 CONNECT. 3 rapper from JERSEY and 3 rappers from DC. We was young, and though we had the talent, we didnt really have the know how.  Long story short we all still keep in contact and 3 of the artist ended up with record deals. I remained independant though, I like the creative control.

What's the message to transmit with your music??
Well first I want to relate to people. I try to make songs that touch the hearts and minds of listeners also I dont like to get stuck in the same concepts. (money, cash, hoes, clubs, cars, jewelry) My main message would be, life can be rough at times but theres always better days. Another message i like to express is being in individual and being expressive. I'm in an industry where trend sells, but im an "ARTIST". As far as that aspect, i want people to hear me and say "hey you know what if RILL can go outside the box and do what he wants to do, then so can i", you know, lead by example.

What's your method at the time of writting a song??
Its a secret...just kidding. They change at times depending on a couple of things like the beat, if im writing with people, or if i have as song already and im just looking for the right beat to fit the song. Most of the time though I let the beat tell me what to do and i say ok...
1. What does this beat feel like? Or, How does this beat make me feel?
2. What concept or situation fits that feeling?
3. Once i have that i can zero in on a topic that expresses that. At that point im just filling in the puzzle like an author.
4. Iastly i make sure the rythem compliments the feel.
If you look at a song like "GRIND" (currently available @ http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/rilllyrics produced by C-double) and a song like "EUPHORIA" (available @ http://www.reverbnation.com/rilllyrics featuring MARCUS WALKER) they're totally different in sound. Grind is a hard hitting south feeling song and Euphoria is pure vocals over a guitar, which sound like alot different. But, even though thats the case you can still see that the lyrics, concept, flow, all fit to the production.

Which is your music influences??
Im influenced by life more than anything. Just living and breathing, experiencing and watching others. Musically, im a fan of poetry and spoken word because of the depth expressiveness, hip-hop because of the flows that can be used and the wit of it. I like R&B and ROCK as well for its passion and the feeling that the artist put into it. As far as artist i have to say Im a fan of, really, to many to name. Put it like this if there a legend im a fan. I like quality.

What plans do you guys have for the future??
Well I plan on releasing my album in the spring, currently im just uping my marketing and promotion and working on getting more people to hear the music. Eventually I would like to aquire a distribution and promotion deal with a major so i can grow my indie record label RILL CONNECTED ENTERTAINMENT. (ARTIST OUT THERE WE ALSO DO MANUFACTURING rillconnectedent@gmail.com)

Which has been the funniest prank you guys have been or took part while on tour or after a show??
I think the funniest thing we did was when we acted like we left the our road manager in NEW YORK after a show, we was right near the gig eating pizza while we watched him sit there pacing and callin us off the hook... ah man, good times...

If you guys were stranded in the middle of nowhere after a show or while on tour. The help is 65 miles away from where you guys are, ¿Who would you guys send to look for help? And if while the rest wait, there's no food and the only way to feed yourself is by eating each other, ¿Who would you eat first?
Our road manager...haha! its gotta happen. And we'd eat who ever was the newest on the team, there seniority to think about...

Which country you guys would love to play?
Its a toss up. I'd like to play in AFRICA for like a good cause, but on the other hand i'd like to play in AMSTERDAM, need i say more?
(thats terrible right? please dont make me choose...lol)

With which bands you guys would love to share stage??
I'd love to share a stage with NAS, JAY-Z or THE ROOTS. ( But i gotta run out as the special guest that makes the crowd go wild and bring the show to another level, ahhhh I can see it now.

Are you guys OK, with the direction the band is going actually?
I'm very pleased with my career it been a learning experience with a lot of personal and artistic growth, and progress.
