Viper Creek Club

What's the meaning behind the band's name?
Viper Creek Club was the name of our old band's last EP, so it was a transition from the old to the new
How the band started??
Brandon and I (Mat) met through my old band's drummer who was a mutual friend. The old band broke up and I moved to Seattle. Brandon and I linked to make music and have been doing so last 4-5 years. We have been working under the Viper Creek Club project/band for last year. This includes our recent LP release “Letters” but also a series of local (Seattle) remixes we are doing with hip hop groups.

What's the message to transmit with your music??
The message behind the songwriting varies. But we like to try and fuse music production methods and genres to create a unique sound.

What's your method at the time of writting a song??
We always start with the music and then work in the lyrics/vocals as that's happening. Sometimes we will have good song structure and good vocal hook for chorus and build off that. Some songs we build together during rehearsals, and some we will kind of work from home. I may build some pieces of song, then Brandon will listen and get guitar parts for song, then we will rehearse the song to figure out vocals, and make sure it all works together.

Which is your music influences??
Our influences vary wildly. I (Brandon) listen to a lot of indie pop/indie rock, folk, alt-country and some electro-pop. A lot of Mat’s production, etc is influenced by indie hip hop, as well as electro-pop. I feel like we pull from several different angles, and experiences. We both have been playing music since we can remember, and have backgrounds in standard music studies as well as production.

What plans do you guys have for the future??
We will be entering a CMJ radio campaign shortly for our album “Letters”. We are playing upcoming CMJ and SXSW music festivals in support of our album release. We have a composition (not featured on “Letters”) which will be featured in upcoming advertisement campaign for Nike. We are releasing a local mixtape in the Winter featuring our remixes of local Seattle/Tacoma hip hop artists

Which has been the funniest prank you guys have been or took part while on tour or after a show??
So far we haven’t had the opportunity to play a good prank on or off the road. Now that you’ve brought up the idea I’ll start brainstorming for the coming year…

If you guys were stranded in the middle of nowhere after a show or while on tour. The help is 65 miles away from where you guys are, ¿Who would you guys send to look for help? And if while the rest wait, there's no food and the only way to feed yourself is by eating each other, ¿Who would you eat first?
I (Brandon) am a former Boy Scout/Eagle Scout. Pretty much meaning I’m awesome and could make it so we could survive off of snails and dirt.

Which country you guys would love to play?
We'd love to play some dates in Europe. I think our music would translate well there in most countries.

With which bands you guys would love to share stage??
It’d be rad to share the stage with Friendly Fires, the xx, Phoenix, and Miike Snow.

Are you guys OK, with the direction the band is going actually?
We are fairly happy with how well received Viper Creek Club's projects have been. However, we'd love to branch out and play more shows across the country to try and support the album on a more macro level.
