The James Douglas Show

What's the meaning behind your name? I thought it sounded like a T.V. show! It is James First and Middle name. Most people know us as The J.D.S. though.

How did you guys get started with all this?I met Mike Cee (Keyboards) in Los Angeles at Edmonds Studios, we were both working on projects there. he introduced me to james who was looking for a drummer and It seemed to click. Then for family reasons I had to move back to Albuquerque. So it all ended. I kept in touch with Mike and James and Mike and i decided to put something together. I called James and sent him a check for gas to get to Alb. He said he could be there in 2 weeks. So I had him a band and gigs booked by the time he got to New mexico!! And thats a short version of how it went down!

What's the message to transmit with your music? I think there is a mixed message. We want to provoke, fun, thought, etc.. but most of all FUN!! We are a band you can just let go and dance to! Our music even the more thought provoking songs are still set to a groove! In the end we want to be an escape where you can go on a mental vacation and just have a blast!! We take the music seriously, we dont take ourselves seriously!!

What's your method at the time of writting a song? It depends, some we write as a group, james will bring in a good one here and there of his own. Mostly Its a collaboration between Mike and Myself, or Mike and Zach, or Mike and James. Its basically all mikes fault!

Who are your music influences? We have a huge list!! Prince, maxwell, marvin gaye, SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE!!, toto, Jay Z, Teddy pendergras, Aerosmith, you name it and weve stole something from them to fit into our sound, look, or stage show!

What plans do you guys have for the future? Keep touring, putting out records and having a good time. We try to out work everyother band out there! Not in a bad way, we just want to make sure we are not slacking. We have noticed a heavy decline in touring bands out there and we are still trying to hold on!! So the short answer is KEEP WORKING!!

What has been the greatest day as a musician? We have played shows from 2 people to 50,000! And the greatest day for me is the ones where people are singing the words to our songs at the shows, comeing to the merch booth to talk after the shows and saying that we made thier day or life better. I think we are blessed to have them there to listen. So any day with our fans/friends is our greatest day!

If you guys were stranded in the middle of nowhere after a show or while on tour, and the help is 65 miles away from where you guys are, who would you guys send to look for help? And if while the rest wait, there's no food and the only way to feed yourself is by eating each other, who would you eat first? I would probably go, and Take Royce my drumtech. Im the biggest one in the band so Id get eaten first.

What are your hobbies? Playing music! Touring!

What country would you guys love to play? We want to play everywhere! Japan, europe!,, South America! Wherever! If you have a gig we will be there!

With what bands would you guys love to share the stage? We have been fortunate to share the stage with hundreds of huge nads, and we still have a wish list! maxwell, Raphael Saddiq, Sly Stone, P-funk, Sade, Lenny kravitz, it goes on and on!!

Are you guys happy with the direction the band is going? Yes pretty much, we are trying to make the best music we can , and put on amazing shows, we want to work, so with work will come the rewards. Yes we love what we do!
