Even the Dogs

What's the meaning behind the band's name?
It actually comes from the scripture in the Bible: Matthew 15:27 – “Even the Dogs beg for scraps from the Master’s table…”. Basically, to us, it means that everyone deserves love, deserves a chance.

How the band started??
We all knew each other from touring around the local/regional scene. Anthony and I were together in a very successful regional band called “Recycled Souls”. David had just joined RS after his band “New Kind of Army” disbanded. Jerry actually had auditioned for RS, and I considered stepping down from the rhythm guitar spot and just singing, but we went with a different guitar player that seemed to be a better fit. Jerry went on to be in a band called “Seven Wounds”…when RS disbanded, Jerry was the first and only guitar player we called. That was a little over 4 years ago.

What's the message to transmit with your music??
We write from a very angry perspective….angry in a sense of we’re sick and tired of watching all the negativity that people get dealt on a daily basis. Even though our music comes off as angry, there’s always the “light at the end of the tunnel” in our music. You won’t hear anything negative from us, people get enough of it at work, home, school, peers….we’re about hope, love, mercy, understanding….

What's your method at the time of writting a song??
Typically an idea will come to me, I almost always have a working title first and write the song around the title….. I just catalog lyrics, and then typically at rehearsal, either Jerry or David will be messing around with some lick or riff and I’ll grab the lyric book and start flipping through. We’re all about the hook, so if it’s catchy to us, we run with it.

Which is your music influences??
Our influences are as broad as the ocean itself…it’s funny, you never know what you’re going to hear when we’re on the road. We can be jamming to Motown, the Glee soundtrack, some Michael Jackson or Prince, then the next minute we’re off into The Devil Wears Prada, Suicide Silence, Killswitch Engage, Demon Hunter, or then off to some power alt pop like Panic at the Disco, Emery…we’re all over the board. We just love music.

What plans do you guys have for the future??
We just released our first cd after getting signed to Driven Music Group (Brian “Head” Welch, Godhead, Flotsam and Jetsam, Embracing Goodbye, Crossbreed….) on May 25th. We have both US and International distribution through Warner/ADA…so we’re currently touring behind that. Our first single and music video is out…”Shut Your Mouth” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_n8TuPvpYg we plan on touring behind this release probably through the end of next summer’s festival season, and releasing our second album in the fall of 2011. You can find our music everywhere…iTunes, Amazon, Best Buy, CD Universe, Tower Records, Sony, FYE, Hastings, you name it…it’s out there.

Which has been the funniest prank you guys have been or took part while on tour or after a show??
We constantly prank each other….I’m probably the worst. It’s like my job to mess with the guys. It’s best to get Jerry, he stresses out so bad. We were getting ready to load out for a major festival last weekend, and I told him that the flight case that has his heads and pedals in were by the hot water tank and it filled about half way up….I had stood the flight case up on its end to drain….I thought he was going to throw up. His face went ghost white. Another one was I called the band on a conference call and told them that we had just landed the Killswitch Engage tour….we were leaving on such and such and wouldn’t be back for 8 weeks….they are all flipping out and screaming, then David goes….”Wait a minute….that’s one of the weekends I’m getting married” I told him “It’s ok….she’ll understand…move the date” David said “Let me see what I can do!” Epic!!!!!!!!!

If you guys were stranded in the middle of nowhere after a show or while on tour. The help is 65 miles away from where you guys are, ¿Who would you guys send to look for help? And if while the rest wait, there's no food and the only way to feed yourself is by eating each other, ¿Who would you eat first?
Hahahahahaha…..Eddie would definitely get eaten first…I’ve got the most meat on my bones. We would have to send Anthony….he’s the only one anal enough to stick with finding help. The rest of us would get distracted and start chasing lizards or something.

Which country you guys would love to play?
Ireland…Germany….Austrailia…..it’s a toss up there!

With which bands you guys would love to share stage??
Killswitch Engage and Demon Hunter would have to be a tie. Then the list is too long to mention. We are all HUGE fans of music.

Are you guys OK, with the direction the band is going actually?
We spent 4 years refining the sound we have now, so yes…we love where we’re at. I actually listen to our cd all the time. Once you see us live, you get it. We are that band that you have to see us live….then we grab you by the throat and don’t let go. The best part is…you actually like it!!! Come see an ETD show….we’ll be in your city, or a city near you soon.
