Minister Theory

What's the meaning behind the band's name? Our previous keyboard player was taught to play piano and organ by an old minister at his church growing up. His title was Minister Theory (Theory being this man's last name). We played a show with Minister Theory and the name kind of stuck. We liked it's double meaning as well. Sort of like spreading our theories about life through our music.

How the band started?? The lead singer Gina, drummer Chris, and guitar player Tony are siblinigs, so they have been playing together their whole lives. Toby (keyboards), James (saxaphone), and Rob (bass), were friends of the family and fellow musicians. The group decided one day to get together and work on some original song ideas that Tony and Gina had and it just blossomed from there. The chemistry was great and the sound began to mold into what it is today.

What's the message to transmit with your music?? Minister Theory simply wants to spread the message of being happy and enjoying life. Being good to others, relaxed and grooving off the music. Pretty much trying to give people an escape from the negativity and drudgery of everyday life we are exposed to.

What's your method at the time of writting a song?? Gina and Tony do most of the writing. It usually starts with raw ideas that are presented to the band and then it just unfolds from there. Everyone gives their own ideas and flavors on the song. Sometimes it stays close to how it started, other times it morphs into something totally new. It's all about going with the flow, letting the music take us where it wants us to go, and not trying to force it.

Which is your music influences?? Way to many to list! All the members have such a wide range of music we listen to. We all grew up listening to pretty much every genre of music, so we appreciate all styles. On the whole it'd be safe to say we are influenced most by funk and groove, R&B, soul, classic rock.

What plans do you guys have for the future?? Right now Minister Theory is working very hard to promote their new CD and getting out to play in front of as many audiences as possible. Touring is the biggest goal right now. Branching out.

Which has been the funniest prank you guys have been or took part while on tour or after a show?? We tried to get a senior discount for Chris at a motel we stayed at on the road. He's the oldest guy in the band, so we have rag him all the time. It almost worked, but the motel attendent didn't believe us.

If you guys were stranded in the middle of nowhere after a show or while on tour. The help is 65 miles away from where you guys are, ¿Who would you guys send to look for help? And if while the rest wait, there's no food and the only way to feed yourself is by eating each other, ¿Who would you eat first? We'd definitely send Toby. He is the most efficient of us all, and the most in shape so he'd cover a lot more ground and actually would find help. As far as eating eachother goes, I don't think it would happen. We're all very lazy and probably would look around and say, "na, that's way to much work". The only energy we exert is on stage and in our music. Now if there was homemade spaghetti sauce involved that might be a different story!

Which country you guys would love to play? We want to play them all if we can. Anywhere we have the chance to groove with people we love it.

With which bands you guys would love to share stage?? Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, Radiohead. We love jamming with anybody!

Are you guys OK, with the direction the band is going actually? Music is a life long endeavor. We've all done music our whole lives and understand that nothing comes easy and you have to work hard for everything you get and to get where you want to be. We all our willing to give it our best efforts and love what we're doing and love playing together, so whatever direction that takes us, we'll be satisified.
