Aria Novos

How did the band begin??
The band started when I (Gerard) left my previous band, Oh, Clemency in December of 2009. I wanted to go into a different direction and try something I had never done before. At that time, I had discovered Audrey Sinead through our bassist and worked on some demos I had been working on with her. From there, we really mended and got along practicing with other previous Oh, Clemency members, Alex and Eric on drums and lead guitar respectively. We recently found a new bassist, Bryan.

What's the message to transmit with your music??
I think our main message is to just bring people together through our music and art. Beyond bringing people together who respect music, we just want to spread the word of love. We feel that music can help anyone who utilizes it.

What's your method at the time of writing a song??
Well, for our Diamond Light EP, I wrote most if not all of the music and lyrics for it. I brought what I had to the rest of the band and we all collaborated on the whole thing and edited and added parts. We wrote some parts of the songs in the studio as well. For our next record, which we have started writing, Audrey and I have been writing together more. We're going to try and make song writing more of a group effort.

What are your music influences??
We all have pretty different influences. I listened to a lot of Mew and Radiohead when writing Diamond Light. Audrey listens to a lot of folk, such as Fleetfoxes, and the rest of the band listens to more experimental and some heavier stuff.

What plans do you guys have for the future??
Our plans are to just play as many shows as we can in the Tampa Bay Area to gather a dedicated following. We're also looking for a label to help with getting our name out there and to assist with recording our new record. For the most part though, we're going to do things independently and maybe do a Florida/East Coast tour in the near future, or a national tour if circumstances come out right.

Which has been the funniest prank you guys have been or took part while on tour or after a show??
We're all pretty chill and straightforward people during and after a show. We also haven't played too many shows where we've had the opportunity to pull a prank but I'm sure there will be more shows for that in the future.

If you guys were stranded in the middle of nowhere after a show or while on tour. The help is 65 miles away from where you guys are, ¿Who would you guys send to look for help? And if while the rest wait, there's no food and the only way to feed yourself is by eating each other, ¿Who would you eat first?
We would send Alex to look for help but he would probably get distracted and ditch us. For food, we would eat Audrey because she's the weakest and she wouldn't struggle as much.

Which country would you guys love to play?
We'd love to play any country outside of the US if we had the opportunity but Scotland, Australia, or the Phillippines would be fun to play.

With which bands would you guys love to share the stage??
We'd most like to share the stage with Glasvegas. Radiohead would be really cool to share the stage with as well.

Are you guys OK, with the direction the band is going actually?
Yeah, I mean, musically, we're all excited with the direction the band is going. We're all stoked to share our music with people and we enjoy the response we've been getting so far. As people, we all get along and like playing together as a way to relieve stress and just have fun. We're all pretty optimistic in where the band is going in the future.
