What's the meaning behind the band's name?
Well, it actually came down between Lotus Effect and Black Death Metal Baby Drop Kick but we were having a real hard time fitting Black Death Metal Baby Drop Kick on a business card. We just wanted something to show that we kind of march to our own drummer, pun intended, we work hard to make music that’s different but compelling and wanted a name that would show that.
How did the band start??
We were all friends for the most part, Gabe, Jay and Rick, hanging out, jamming, playing tunes. Then Dre came along after his previous band broke up, and there just comes a time when you get tired of playing in your garage and want to take the music out for other people to hear.
What's the message to transmit with your music??
Free sex. We believe strongly that people should not have to be forced to pay for sex. And also to just follow your own self and don’t be afraid to be individually you. Screw conformity.
What's your method at the time of writing a song??
A song for us starts with a concept or an idea that someone will bring to the table and we all start to build around. And then that idea will grow and grow until a song pops out, a lot like having a baby. As for lyrics, we usually channel the spirit of a dead celebrity to write the lyrics for us. No exaggeration, that’s actually true.
Which is your music influences??
You know we all have our different preferences but what influences us musically more than other bands are literature, art and history. And hopefully that comes out in what we do.
What plans do you guys have for the future??
Continuing to expand our touring, getting back in the studio, and playing more house parties. If anyone wants us to play a kegger at their house, hit us up on Facebook. Seriously.
Which has been the funniest prank you guys have been or took part while on tour or after a show??
Oh man, there was one time when we dropped Jay’s iPhone in the toilet. That was hilarious. And there was one time after a show when Dre made out with Jay’s girlfriend, pure hilarity. And then there was that one time when we were on the road and we left Jay in San Antonio. Man, we are such a bunch of pranksters.
If you guys were stranded in the middle of nowhere after a show or while on tour. The help is 65 miles away from where you guys are, ¿Who would you guys send to look for help? And if while the rest wait, there's no food and the only way to feed yourself is by eating each other, ¿Who would you eat first?
We’d send Rick because his phone has that GPS app, wait all our phones have that app. Okay, we’d still send Rick because we’d miss him the least, and there’s no way we would eat each other because once we saw each other naked that’s enough to make anybody lose their appetite.
Which country you guys would love to play?
Germany, definitely, they love the Hoff.
With which bands you guys would love to share stage??
The Doors, man, that would be insane. Anyone have the contact info for their booking manager?
Are you guys OK, with the direction the band is going actually?
Absolutely, it’s been such a great year for us, so many opportunities have opened up for us and we’ve been getting overwhelmingly positive feedback about our latest album “Rabbits & Royalty”, so yeah, things are going great and will hopefully only continue to get better.
